GREAT TREK CHIMP ADVENTURES is working to preserve & protect wild incredible species

Supporting conservation efforts

Saving nature is at the very heart of what we do as Great Trek Chimp Adventure. For 3 years, we have made it our mission to find solutions that save the marvelous array of life on our planet by applying the best science available and working closely with local communities. But our work is far from done. Humans are behind the current rate of species extinction, which is at least 100–1,000 times higher than nature intended and the impacts will reach far beyond the potential cultural loss of iconic species like Tigers, Rhinos, and Elephants. The good news is we’ve also seen what’s working Great Trek Chimp Adventure has been part of successful wildlife recovery stories and this, in turn, is helping to protect rich and varied ecosystems while ensuring people continue to benefit from nature.

Supporting local communities

We seek to enrich our local communities in a variety of ways. In addition to creating jobs within our own operations, we support hundreds of thousands of livelihoods through Save Life Uganda a local organization that was started up with an aim of helping orphans and local communities members in Uganda. We aim to empower local youth and to champion social enterprises. We also look for ways to use our skills and resources to support the local community: donating food, raising money for charities, and supporting groups who are driving positive change through Save Life Uganda.

Helping animals in the wild

There are many ways we can help animals living in the wild and save them from the harms that they face in nature. In the long term, the only way they will eventually get the help they need is by us raising awareness of the plight of wild animals and the discrimination they suffer. But there are helpful things that can be done for them in the short term, too. Some people may want wild animals to be helped yet fear that we lack the knowledge to do it properly, and that we would do more harm than good. Fortunately, though, there are ways we can help animals using our current knowledge. There are already many examples we can draw upon. Many involve helping certain animals individually. Others involve helping large groups of animals, which can be done in scientifically informed ways in order to ensure that no negative consequences occur. Eventually, research on this problem could be established in academia, which could provide us with much better information on the best ways of helping animals living in the wild. Unfortunately, most people are still unaware of the different ways in which animals can be helped and are, in fact, currently being helped.
